Media Briefing Organisation (MBO)
Activity available under: Marcoms Accelerator, Media Communications and Marketing Management services.
Scope: Planning/scheduling only
Credit value: 8
Description
You have probably seen press conferences on the TV. A ‘media briefing’ is somewhat different. Whilst members of the press (‘trade press’ in our case) are still invited to meet with you and your colleagues, media briefings are tailored. We achieve this through organising a series of one-on-ones; meeting the journalists at trade shows or conducting interviews over the phone or conference call.
Definition
‘Organisation’ relates to the planning / scheduling of the meetings and/or interviews. The meetings /interviews are separate activities.
The Process
We work with you to prepare a theme for the briefing. It is advisable (but not essential) to base the briefing around an announcement or two. In this respect, one or two press releases would be prepared (possibly with embargo dates) as separate activities.
We would use our Media Communication Database to identify the most relevant journalists to invite to the briefing. This would include analysis of the forward features lists of the publications so that the outgoing invitations can be tailored; i.e. we plan what can be offered as exclusive information (on top of the general information that will be shared during all meetings/interviews).
We have proven processes for managing the responses to the invitations, and issue dated schedules running up to the meetings interviews.
As mentioned, implementation is a separate activity, in which a Declaration team member will be the mediator. That activity also includes reporting on the outcome of each meeting and flags any follow-up actions (for example, requests for articles – which would be handled as separate activities).
The Deliverable
A schedule of face-to-face meetings and/or interviews that are tailored to the requirements of each journalist.
Additional
We can also help you prepare any presentations you may wish to give – or like us to give on your behalf – for the meetings / interviews with journalists.
