Press Release Distribution (PRD)
Activity available under: Marcoms Accelerator, Media Communications and Marketing Management services.
Scope: Distributed to the editors of trade publications only
Credit value: 4
Description
This is the sending out of your press releases, as supplied by you or originated/reworked by us (but approved by you), to specific groups of editors, journalists and reporters. Distribution is done with a view to securing online coverage, with print pick-up regarded as an added bonus.
Note: we do not use distribution services (such as newswire) and do not use distribution apps (such as Mailchimp). Rather, we email editors one at a time. We also upload press releases directly to the publications’ sites directly (where that facility exists).
Definition
This activity relates to trade press only; i.e. we send your press releases to the editors of the types of free-subscription engineering and technology publications your customers read (in print, online and in digital format). We do not distribute to commercially available magazines/journals, daily nationals, broadsheets or other forms of media (e.g. TV or radio).
The Process
We will work with you to categorise the individual writers (as they tend to specialise in certain subject matters) of all relevant trade publications against one, more or all the sectors/markets in which you operate. See Media Communications Database for further information.
For any given press release it to will be categorised against one, more or all the sectors/markets in which you operate; as well as geographic regions to which the news pertains; for example, if you are a distributor, the news might be about your appointment to represent a supplier in the UK, Ireland and DACH countries.
Our database then automatically produces a customised distribution list.
The Deliverable
Whilst we cannot guarantee coverage for any given press release, we believe our writing style and the reputation we have with editors results in better coverage than would otherwise be the case.
We will typically identify ourselves as the media contact (for editorial enquiries) and you as the contact for sponsorship (unless we are managing that for you).
Additional
Many publications now request small contributions to their production costs (in light of less revenue coming from advertising). We call this practice ‘sponsorship’ as it is cheaper than advertising. For instance, between £90 and £125 will guarantee coverage in a magazine that might have a circulation of tens of thousands of readers, online news and possibly even inclusion in a newsletter.
We can manage this for you, but it needs to be agreed at the start of your engagement with us. We will manage a budget of £500 per press release and will charge 1 additional credit per press release.
Please note, we reserve the right to refuse to distribute press releases not originated or (at least) reworked by Declaration if we feel doing so could tarnish the reputation of your organisation or ours. For example, if we feel there is little if any real ‘news value’ we will not waste editors’ time. We also want to avoid a boy-who-cried-wolf scenario at all costs.
